Teaching Mathematics for Justice and Equity (TMfJE) Institute

The WRNN Teaching Mathematics for Justice and Equity (TMfJE) Institute for Noyce scholars and fellows provides an opportunity for Noyce math teachers to explore, develop, enact and then share lessons and strategies for promoting justice and equity through math teaching.

We will gather for at the NCTM conferencein Chicago from September 25-28.  Participants will receive funding to travel to the conference and attend conference sessions in addition to the TMfJE Institute Sessions.   We will have virtual spaces for additional participants who are not able to travel to Chicago.

After the conference, participants will work in small teams of critical friends to incorporate equity strategies and implement math for justice lessons developed at the institute into their classroom teaching.  These teams will be supported through virtual coaching and online tools to share their experiences.  We will host three 2-hour sessions open to all WRNN members with invited speakers sharing current research and practices for equitable and just mathematics teaching.

In June, the participants from the Institute will re-convene virtually to share what the progress they have made in adopting new strategies and implementing justice-oriented mathematics lessons.

Registration for the WRNN Teaching Mathematics for Justice and Equity (TMfJE) Institute is full for in-person participation and remains open for virtual participation for the 2024-25 program outlined below.   We look forward to teams sharing what they have learned next year at the WRNN conference 2/21-2/23/25 in San Diego!
